We start in 1890 with Edison’s first street lights located at Holborn in London and we learn how Nikolai Tesla actually knew better. We see the chaos of private power and how a government built national grid came to the rescue. With an explosion of electric appliances on the horizon, the 1950s experienced a surge of dirty coal fired power while a drive for cleaner source of electricity resulted in the 1970s fashion for nuclear fission. In the 1980s a global grid arrived in the shape of incredible High Voltage Direct Current cables that could send vast amounts of power under the sea. Finally we take a peek into at tomorrow with a look at how are cleaning up our generating systems and what we’ll be plugging in to get on the move in the future.
Having become world famous for her intrepid solo ocean voyages, Ellen MacArthur is now carving a new niche as an outspoken advocate for the Circular Economy. We spend the day with iconic sailor as she visits the ultra modern Renault factory in Maubeuge, Northern France. In a packed day, Ellen meets new Renault boss Carlos Tavares, is shown around the factory, gives a lecture on the circular economy and is presented with the keys to a brand new electric Kangoo. After lunch Ellen is given an eco driving lesson by an expert instructor on the street of Maubeuge. In their quest to hit some of Europe’s best surfing beaches, our trio start their epic 1000km journey in Newquay, on the South West coast of England. Double European Surfing Champion Eric is in Cornwall to compete in the World Qualifying Series at the world famous Newquay Boardmasters, in his bid to get back on to the World Surfing Tour. But Eric doesn’t have it easy, coming up against a man in form by the name of Daniel Ross from Australia. After an intense few days of competition for Eric, Anne-Flore and Sancho arrive and that’s when the partying begins! With the weather threatening to make a turn for the worse, it’s all change with the Surf Break team deciding to take the ferry from Roscoff back to home soil, in search of some sunshine and more surfing action!

Putting their Renault Koleos, through its paces, our trio arrive on home soil at the French port of Roscoff before heading to La Torche, on the beautiful coast of Brittany. At La Torche, it's wetsuits on and into the waves for some adrenalin fuelled surfing action! Later it's off to an eatery to sample the local cuisine and it's time for cider and crepes! Next day it's back into the Koleos with our road trippers heading due south down France's Atlantic coast to the huge sand dune at La Pyla. Each year they rescue hundreds of walkers who have injured themselves on the Fells – making good use of the highly adapted Renault Master Van which is used as a command and control centre, especially given 2009's freak winter weather. In this film we meet the Mountain Rescue team members, all of them volunteers, who are prepared to drop everything to go on potentially life-saving call-outs in conditions that are often treacherous. We see the role the Renault Master plays in search and rescue operations and join a team on a training exercise. We're also with the team when a genuine call-out takes place and they head into the snow-covered hills to rescue a casualty.

Parc Ornithologique, located in the South of France's Camargue region, is the visually stunning home to a variety of birds, including flamingos, herons, storks and many other smaller native birds. This family-run venture has a rescue team which looks after approximately 350 injured and unwell birds annually. Responding to calls from the public, injured birds are picked up by a member of the team in their Renault Kangoo and brought to the centre for treatment. In addition the park runs an education programme for visitors and is a popular spot for wild-life photographers, tourists and nature lovers.
